Kharkhorin and Ugii Lake
It's probably one of our most popular requests for a short term travelers, especially for Trans Siberians. During this 2 days trip you will enjoy few days sightseeing, some wildlife and will experiencing culture. You'll stay in a small ger hostel in Kharkhorin, located on beautiful rivers. Here you'll engage in a variety of activities including horseback riding, light hiking and do some fishing in the Lake Ugii, which is the great place for fishing.
Day1.Leaving Ulaanbaatar for Kharkhorin
After you picked up from your hostel or hotel in Ulaanbaatar, we will drive to Kharkhorin which was a capital city of Mongolia in 13th century for about 30 years, located in northwestern part of Uvurkhangai province of Mongolia. On the way to get to the Kharkhorin we will have a lunch on the open space of Mongolian countryside. We will drive forward to Kharkhorin after the lunch.
One of the Mongolian most attractive monasteries Erdenezuu locates in Kharkhorin City. The Erdenezuu monastery is the most ancient survived Buddist monastery in Kharkhorin, Mongolia. The Erdenezuu monastery was built in 1585 by Abtai Sain Khan and the monastery was allowed to exist as a museum, the only functioning monastery was Gandan monastery in the capital, Ulaanbaatar. However after the fall of communism in Mongolia in 1990, the monastery was turned over the lamas and Erdenezuu again became a place of worship.
Once we get there, we will accommodate in a town ger hostel. After having dinner in a hostel, we will have a free time hiking or wandering around the town. (Lunch and Dinner)
Day2.Drive to Ugii Lake
After having breakfast at the town ger hostel, we will visit to Erdenezuu monastery. After visiting Erdenezuu monastery, we will drive to Ugii Lake which locates in the territory of the Arkhangai province. Then Ugii Lake is beautiful lake which covers 27 sq.km areas, average depth is 6.64m and has length of 23.5m. It is known as the one of the best lakes for fishing which is very rich of pike and catfish. Also it is enthusiastic for swimming, sunbathing, horse and camelback riding around the lake.
Once we get to the lake we can arrange some horseback riding for a couple of hours through the lake. We are staying overnight in a family ger there. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)
Day3.Drive back to Ulaanbaatar
After setting up at the family we will drive back to Ulaanbaatar. When we arrive to Ulaanbaatar, we will be transferred to a hostel or hotel for tonight. We will have some time to do souvenir shopping before we go to an attractive Mongolian National Folklore performance which depends on our arrival to the Ulaanbaatar. We will possibly have dinner together with our guides and drivers, after the dinner, you will be transferred to your accommodation. (Breakfast and Lunch)
